RECORDS: updated -
Do I
have to have the post op reports from my tubal ligation? Do I have to
have them translated? How do I send them? What do I do after I
send my reports?
Reports are not always mandatory,
but if you have them or can easily obtain them, we would appreciate a
copy (in advance if possible). You may fax or email copies (please keep your originals). Dr. Perez and Dr. Levi
both read/speak fluent English, so translation is not necessary.
Note:
After you send your reports, the doctors will be happy to review
and discuss them with you, but it
will be your responsibility to call the doctor for consultation (they will not call you).
Please allow a few days after you send them to give them time to be
received and reviewed.
The consulting physician
will
be happy to discuss them during consultation hours - ONLY
between hours of 4-8 pm
central (Texas) time. The number is 011-52-899-132-2614.
Again, please -- only call during consultation hours.
FAX during regular office hours only: Fax # 011-52-899-934-4645

My husband and I both need reversals
(vasectomy reversal and tubal
reversal).
Can we get them done at the same time?
Yes. We quite often do couples reversals, and we will be happy
to work with you on scheduling and room arrangements. We can coordinate
the two surgeries so that both can be done in the same ‘trip’ (tubal
reversal first evening, vasectomy reversal next afternoon, both
patients released on the 3rd day by noon). We stagger the surgeries in
this manner so that the spouses are not both under sedation at the
same time (unless you plan to bring a third adult with you to act as
your advocate while you are sedated) and this allows each of you to
be available to the other during the first few hours post op.
The amount of in hospital time is relatively the same as it is for just
one patient following a tubal reversal, so it does not add but a few
extra hours to the entire trip.
The only requirement (unless you are able to stay in an area hotel for
some additional days or bring a third person) is that you fly instead
of drive, because neither patient will be medically released or able
to drive following the surgeries.

Is it safe to go to
Mexico for treatment?
While we cannot
speak for the medical services in the entire country, it is extremely
safe to seek services in our area and in our hospital. Our
hospital is a Red Cross hospital - and RC hospitals are known in all
countries for their excellent quality of care.
From the
website of MexicoConnect: What is the level of Health Care and
Medicine in Mexico?
Mexico has had
its share of the US press exploiting some of the non traditional
treatments available "South of the Border". However despite this
image, the facts are that Mexico has an excellent reputation for the
quality of its Health Care system. As in every country there are good
and bad Physicians and better and worse Hospitals. In general, the
Physicians and Surgeons in Mexico are well trained and have good
diagnostic and treatment skills. Most have received training in the
US, Canada or Europe. The Hospitals (both Private and Public) are
usually easily accessible and well equipped. In the major centers such
as Mexico City, Monterrey and Guadalajara, the Hospitals often have
leading edge equipment and techniques that equal or exceed those
available "North of the Border". Nearly all local towns have medical
care available.

What are the doctor's
credentials? Where did he go to school and how can he be checked out.
Dr.
Perez. has been practicing for more 30 years, and has been
specializing in this surgery for more than half of that time. He has
been doing tubal reversal surgery for international patients for
nearly a decade, at the rate of 100+ surgeries per year. His
wonderful care, the large number of successful surgeries and conceptions,
are excellent indications of his skill. Dr. Perez, just like
many American doctors, received his degree from a very reputable
medical school in Mexico.
Dr. Olivares
(vasectomy reversals) is an associate of Dr. Perez and has been asked
to join the reversal team in the last 2 years. He is also well
skilled, and highly accredited, and he is now branching out to
international patients as well. Please see their pages below for
credential details.

How far apart do the
pre-op exam and surgery need to be? Can I do my lab work in advance?
Will I be getting a physical done?
The exam and the
surgery will be done the same day for those traveling internationally. Lab
work will be done will you arrive and cannot be done in advance.
A routine examination will be performed prior to surgery unless you
have health conditions that require a more extensive exam by the
internal specialist.
If you are
over 40, overweight, have pre-existing illnesses, allergies, or
have had multiple previous surgeries (including c-sections) you will
be required to be evaluated by a specialist prior to your surgery;
giving the doctors a better idea of how to manage your care
while you are with us. There is an additional fee for the examination. For detailed
information, please see
costs page.

How far in advance do
we need to schedule the surgery? What if I want to go this week?
What if I want to go next year?
You
can schedule at any time from 1 week to six months in advance
(generally). Please try to pick a date you are confident with and if
at all possible, please try to keep this date. We do understand that
things happen and will try to accommodate your needs, but due to an
overabundance of cancellations, rescheduling, and no shows ~ we have
implemented guidelines concerning these issues. Please see
the link below for more details.
