Marcos Diaz (associate and brother to Dr. Levi Diaz) is head of shuttle transportation for reversal patients.  Marcos speaks English / Spanish & is available until 9 pm cst daily by phone.  Marcos will also be able to help with recommendations on hotels in the areas of McAllen or Harlingen.  Your shuttle driver:

~assists w/ translating, check-in, paperwork, etc
~picks up in Harlingen or McAllen (airport or bus station)
~is recommend by and works directly with the hospital
~will offer a receipt for services to use for your taxes
~has clean / large vehicle, a gentle ride, friendly service

Making shuttle arrangements:  

You must make arrangements in advance - email your details as well as call and leave your (name/surgery date/phone number) as soon as you have made your travel plans. If we do not have your times and contact number we cannot guarantee your transportation.  Otherwise your shuttle is guaranteed - so please do not worry if you do not hear from us immediately.  We will call you back to finalize the plans. 

Travel times:  

Your driver is available to pick you up between the hours of 8am-8pm.  Your service includes pick up the day you arrive at the airport and the day you are released from the hospital.  If you need to make other stops, just talk to the driver.  A fee may apply.  If you are staying extra days or arriving earlier than your pick up date, you must make other arrangements for transport after your hospital stay (ie rental car, etc).  If you do not fly home on your release date, you will be taken to a hotel near your airport to await your flight (or hotel of your choice).  Most hotels do provide free shuttling to the airport. 

Your flight in should arrive no later than 7pm (McAllen) or 6pm (Harlingen) - shuttle service runs until 8pm.    Return flight should be for mid afternoon or later.  You should arrive at least 4 hours before surgery and stay a full 24 hours post op. Please also allow 3-4 hours between hospital release and flight home - in case of border delays.  For more information please email the appointment desk. 

Do's and don'ts of travel:   

Travel light - take only what you need for the trip. US border patrol agents are strict so do not take anything that may look suspicious (large duffle bags, unmarked medications, etc). It will save time and decrease delays getting back into the states.

DO NOT go to pharmacies, markets, or other places and purchase medications or other items not permissible to be transported into the US!  Shopping is a great idea while you are here, but purchases should reviewed by us in advance of leaving for the border. Transporting illegal items could result in the shuttle vehicle being confiscated and/or have our drivers and other passengers detained or even arrested.

Delays! 

Delays at the border and flight delays of other patients may cause the shuttle to arrive a little late for pickup, this is unavoidable but does not occur often.  It will NOT cause you to miss your surgery.   The doctor's and hospital staff will work around the delays to make sure you are able to have your surgery.  Border delays can cause you to miss your return flight if you have not scheduled properly.
